Vegetarian Slow Cooker Chilli

A slow cooker is also known as a crock pot, and it is an electronic kitchen device designed to maintain a relatively low cooking temperature over a long period of time. It usually consists of the electronic “housing,” where the heat is produced, a removable pot, and a lid. They are especially useful for vegetarian slow cooker recipes and dishes like stews and soups. Most crock pots are designed not to reach a temperature of over one hundred degrees, Celsius, or two hundred and twelve degrees Fahrenheit, and are ideal for dishes that have long cooking times.

There are several delicious slow cooker recipes for a person to try, and if you are a vegetarian, a crock pot can be a very useful kitchen tool to have. Vegetarian slow cooker recipes run the gamut; from pasta sauces, to stews, soups, and even chilli. Of course, while chilli usually requires ground meat of some sort, a vegetarian slow cooker recipe for chilli can taste just as delicious without the meat. Often, tofu or beans can make a delicious substitute for meat.

This vegetarian slow cooker recipe for chilli is sure to blow your mind. For a vegetarian slow cooker recipe that serves four, all you need is one fourth cup of olive oil, two chopped onions, one seeded and chopped green bell pepper and one red one, two minced cloves of garlic, seven ounces (or one half of a fourteen ounce pack) of firm tofu that has been drained and cubed, two fifteen ounce drained cans of black beans, one fifteen ounce can of crushed tomatoes, one teaspoon of salt, one fourth teaspoon of ground black pepper, one teaspoon of ground cumin, three tablespoons of chilli powder, one tablespoon each of dried oregano and distilled white vinegar, and one teaspoon (or more, if you’d prefer a spicier vegetarian slow cooker recipe) of hot pepper sauce.

Before putting all of these ingredients into your slow cooker, sauté the onions in the olive oil over medium heat, in a large skillet until they become soft. Afterwards, add the tofu, garlic, and green and red peppers and cook them until they become slightly brown and tender. At this point, you can break out your crock pot. Set it to Low, and pour in your black beans, tomatoes, and sautéed vegetables. Add the spices and other remaining ingredients, stir them gently, cover it, and leave the dish in the slow cooker at low settings for about five to eight hours. This particular vegetarian slow cooker recipe is a delicious and healthy dip for nachos, and is very easy to prepare.
