Split Pea Soup Crock Pot Recipes You’ll Love

Here’s are a couple of easy and quick split pea soup crock pot recipes that you can prepare for the whole family. Split pea crock pot recipes are the ideal if you want to prepare your favorite spilit pea dish ahead of time, yet still want the dish served fresh and hot from the stove.

The first one is a vegetarian split pea crock pot recipe, and this a great and healthy alternative to your ordinary canned soup. You will need the following ingredients:

3 tbsp olive oil   1 chopped onion
2 finely minced garlic cloves  2 chopped celery ribs
2 pieces of carrots, chopped
1 bag split peas, dried, rinsed, and cleaned
1 cup regular long grained rice, uncooked  
¼ cup reduced fat margarine
½ tsp ground black pepper

In a pan heat some oil and add the onions, carrots, celery, and garlic. Saute until the veggies turn soft. Add these to a 6 quart crock pot. Then add the peas and the water until the crock pot is half full. Cover and set on low. Cook until the peas are tender which will usually take 4 to 5 hours. Stir in the rice, and replace the cover. Cook until the rice is tender. Keep adding water to keep the crock pot half full.
Stir in the pepper and margarine. Serve.

1 pound split peas 1 piece large carrot
1 piece potato, small 2 stalks celery
1 medium onion ½ cup chopped parsley
1/3 cup barley  2 tsp celery seed
2 tsp salt  ¼ tsp black pepper
1 tsp basil  1 tsp thyme
Garlic powder  6 cups chicken broth
Boil the peas in a pot of water for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let it stand for an hour. Cut the vegetables or process with a food processor. Mix all ingredients in the crock pot. Fill the crock pot to the top level with water if the vegetables do not fill it fully. Set it on low and cook for eight hours. Finally, you can use a blender to puree the whole thing into a soup. Dilute with water if desired.

You can serve both dishes garnished with your favorite croutons. The crock pot split pea soup also freezes well, so there is no problem if you have more left over. Simply reheat the whole thing and it is your next meal.
