Spicing up Slow Cooker Recipes with Lentils
Lentils are herbs used to add seasoning and flavorings to food, and are used in a lot of European and Asian cuisines. Here are a couple of recipes you can try using your slow cooker.
Lentils Flavored with Cheese
Ingredients:
Rinsed lentils (2 pounds), sliced onions (1 and a half cups), a couple of cups of clove garlic (crushed), tomatoes (2 cans), chicken broth (3 cups), celery (sliced, 1 cup), 3 small carrots (chopped),1 bell pepper and fresh parsley (2 and a half cups).
The following are also necessary: ground marjoram (1/4 teaspoon), salt (1 teaspoon), leaf sage (1/3 teaspoon), thyme (1/8 of a teaspoon), and 10 ounces of shredded cheese.
With the exception of the cheese, set all the ingredients in the slow cooker and on a high setting, cook for 4 hours. You will know that it is ready when the lentils have turned soft. Remove the lid and add the cheese, gently stirring it in and letting it melt.
When serving this dish, you may add some more shredded cheese.
Pasta Laced with Lentils
This is a very popular dish with many variations, this being one of the easiest. Prepare the following: spinach (16 ounces), chopped onion (1/3 cup), clove garlic (3 pieces, crushed), lentils (1 and a half cups washed and dried), cumin seeds (crushed, 2 teaspoons), and half a teaspoon of red chili pepper.
To complete this slow cooker recipe you also need to get some ground black pepper (1/6 teaspoon), water (2 cups), linguine salt (10 ounces), cream cheese (4 ounces) and Parmesan cheese (grated).
After rinsing the spinach remove the stems and place them in a refrigerator. Now get the slow cooker and put in the chard stems, chopped onions, cumin, lentils, red pepper, garlic, and spray some black pepper. Finally, sprinkle some water.
Put the lid on and using a fork mix the ingredients well. Let the lentils tenderize. This will take about 7 hours (press low) to cook well. Cut some of the spinach leaves diagonally and throw in the slow cooker. Set it to high for 15 minutes.
Now boil some water and put the linguine there, letting it cook. When it’s ready, pour in a servicing bowl, and add some salt to flavor. Mix in some lentil sauce and cream cheese into this concoction. To serve this dish, sprinkle with lots of Parmesan cheese.
