Serving Soup Meals with Crock Pots

Making soup is very easy, and using a slow cooker not only streamlines the process but also allows you to whip up different variants. Below are some recipes that even neophytes will enjoy serving up.

Barbecue Bean Soup

To create this dish on a slow cooker, the following ingredients are required: three fourths cup of finely chopped onion, 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 and ½ to 2 lbs of beef (short ribs), a pound of Great Northern beans (they need to be soaked, rinsed and drained overnight), 2 teaspoons of salt (or more depending on your taste), 6 cups of water and a cup of barbecue sauce.

Put the beans and the chopped onions in the slow cooker along with the beef ribs, pepper, and pour in the water. Set the slow cooker to low, and let it cook anywhere from 10 to 14 hours. Afterwards separate the beef from the ribs, and then put the beef back into the slow cooker and put in the barbecue sauce; use the salt to add zest. Set to high for about 20 minutes, and then you’re done.

Beef Barley Soup

This slow cooker soup recipe is a dish you will have not problems making. First you get a pound of beef stew and slice them into small cubes; this recipe will also require half a cup of chopped onion, ¾ cup of barley, 2 sliced carrots, a couple of celery ribs (chopped), a bay leaf, a teaspoon of salt, 5 cups of beef broth, and some pepper.

Take the beef stew and put it in the slow cooker with the bay leaf, carrots, celery, barley and onions. Now set the crock pot to low for about six to eight hours. Afterwards you may add some pepper and more salt.

Barbecue, Bean and Sausage Soup

The ingredients for this slow cooker dish include 1 lb of beans (red beans or navy beans, either one will do, and they must be dried); a pound of sausage, barley (1 cup), stock or water (7 cups), peeled garlic cloves (chopped), some bay leaves and salt.

The first step is to wash the beans thoroughly and let it soak all night. Afterwards take the beans and let it simmer for about half an hour on a stovetop, after which you need to remove the water. Now place the barley, sausage, beans, garlic, bay leaves and water into the crock pot. Set the crock pot to low. After 9 hours the soup should be ready. You may dash some salt or pepper on it.

Vegetable Beef Soup

For this old favorite, the following are required: 5 lbs of beef shanks, cold water (2 quarts), bacon juice (2 tablespoons), a teaspoon of salt, a can of tomatoes, an onion, 5 diced carrots, sprigs parley (6 pieces), green beans (2 cups), ¼ cup of rice (barley can be substituted), half a cup of celery, and a cup of sliced potatoes.

Take the beef and immerse it in the bacon juices and put in water and let it boil. Next spray in the onion and salt, and allow it to simmer for a couple of hours more. Next take all the aforementioned vegetables and rice (or barley) and add them, and letting it all simmer in the slow cooker for another hour. Take away the beef shank and get rid of the bone, and then put it back into the crock pot.

There’s no end to the kinds of soup recipes you can make on a slow cooker. All it takes is a little patience, and you’ll be dishing them out like a pro chef.
