Pot Roasts and Crock Pots: the Perfect Combination

In order to make the best pot roast recipes possible, it’s best to use a slow cooker. Even if you don’t know much about cooking in general, if you follow the instructions it can be quite a pleasurable experience.

 Harvest Pot Roast

For this slow cooker recipe, the following are required: bacon (6 slices, cut crosswise), red skinned potatoes (2 pounds, red skinned and sliced into small pieces), 1 rutabaga, carrots (6 pieces, sliced), salt and pepper, boneless beef roast (3 pounds), thyme (1 piece), white onions (16 ounces), mushroom (8 ounces), beef broth (1 and ½ cups), tomato paste (3 tablespoons), flour (2 tablespoons), and cold water (3 tablespoons).

Take the sliced bacon and put it inside the slow cooker, and spray some of the carrots, rutabaga and potatoes over the bacon. Add some pepper, salt and thyme to flavor it. Now set the pot roast over the vegetables, and spray some mushrooms and onions over it. Add a little more of the thyme, salt and pepper.

Finally, mix the tomato paste and the beef broth and sprinkle over the whole concoction. At low, the pot roast will be cooked in the slow cooker in about 9 hours. Now take out the roast and set it on a plate.

Take away the fat from the broth and pour the broth over a bowl and boil it for about 5 minutes. Next get a smaller bowl and combine the water with the flour. When it’s thickened, sprinkle the mixture over the broth. This will be the gravy for the roast.

Pot Roast with Cherries & Oranges

Here is what you’ll need: a tablespoon of olive oil, salt, pepper, sweet onions (2 pieces), pot roast (4 and ½ lbs, top round, lean), chicken broth (3/4 cup), half a cup of orange juice, garlic powder, leaf thyme (1/2 teaspoon), ketchup (1/4 cup), salt (1/2 teaspoon), pepper (1/4 teaspoon) and 6 dried cherries.

Put the onions inside the slow cooker, and spray it with some of the olive oil, salt and pepper. Next, slice the pot roast into smaller chunks (2 to 4 pieces) and layer it on the onions. Get a bowl and mix in the oranges, cherries, thyme, ketchup and the rest of the ingredients thoroughly.

Set the slow cooker on high, and let it cook for 5 hours. This is good enough for 8 servings.
