Making Italian Beef on Slow Cookers
There are several ways that Italian beef can be cooked in a slow cooker. For those that have had no practice, the following basic (yet sumptuous) variants will introduce you to the possibilities inherent in this delicacy.
Classic Italian Beef
Here are the ingredients: 5 lbs of rump roast, 1 jar (12 ounces) of pepperoni peppers, a 12 ounce jar of Italian Giardiniera, a package of Italian salad dressing, a can of pepperoncini peppers, and a 10 ounce can of beef broth.
Open the slow cooker and put in the rump roast. If you want, you can add a little bit of salt, pepper and garlic (this is only optional). Open the can of beef broth, and pour it in, and add the pepperoncini peppers, the Giardiniera and the salad dressing.
There are different kinds of ingredients here, so give this time to cook. You should set the slow cooker to low and permit 12 to 14 hours to pass. Over that period of time the meat will have tenderized. You can cook this on a high level, and it will only take about 6 hours. However, most prefer to cook it for the longer period, because it will give the dish the time needed to assimilate all the distinct flavorings and make them into a coherent whole.
This Italian beef dish goes best with sandwiches, or Italian rolls. The ingredients here are good for 15 servings. This can be accompanied by some cold beverages, or if you so prefer, a glass of wine instead.
Italian Beef with Beer
You need to have 4 lbs of roast beef, a can of beer (12 ounces will be enough), a pack of Italian salad dressing, a 12 oz jar of pepperoncini peppers, and several pieces of bread.
Start by opening the can of beer and pouring everything into the slow cooker. Next take the pepperoncini peppers and throw them in with the beer. Add the salad dressing and stir the ingredients together. Throw in the other peppers and set the roast on top of it.
Layer it with more peppers, and cook for 10 hours on a low level. When it is done, remove the roast from the slow cooker and set on a platter and serve with the bread. You can use any kind of loaf, and as with the other recipe, you may eat it with rolls.
Italian beef is not only simple to cook, but its ingredients give it a taste that is quite unlike the traditional meat made in slow cookers. When you have learned to make these recipes, invite your friends over, and let them partake of a little European cuisine.
