Indulging in Some Swiss Steaks with Your Crock Pot
You can cook different kinds of meat on a slow cooker, but Swiss steaks are regarded by most as the cream of the crop. Make these dishes as you get to work or fix other household chores, and have it ready by the time you are finished.
Old Fashioned Swiss Steak
Get about 3 lbs of chuck steak (boneless), a couple of crushed onions, flour, and a 28 ounce can of tomatoes.
You can start by removing the fat from the steak and dividing it into several pieces (4 or 6). Apply some pepper and salt to add some flavor. Spray some flour and use a meat hammer to soften it up.
Now open the slow cooker and place in some onions. Add the Swiss steaks and place more onions on top. Spray the tomatoes on top and close the crock pot. Cook for about 9 hours.
When it is cooked, set the Swiss steak on a serving plate. Mix some flour with water, and combine this with the juices in the slow cooker. This will be the gravy.
Swiss Steak with Bell Peppers
The essential ingredients are a cup of uncooked rice (long grain), ground marjoram (1/3 cup), 2 lbs of steak, crumbled thyme (1/4 teaspoon), green and red bell pepper (1/4 cup each), green onion (1/3 cup), and a 4 ounce can of mushrooms. You’ll also need about a couple of teaspoons of butter, vegetable oil (2 and half tablespoons), dry soup mix (half an envelope), and a cup of water, and another 1/3 cup of flour with cold water.
Begin by cooking the rice, and add in the onion, peppers, thyme, butter, mushrooms and marjoram. Slice the steaks into 8 pieces and spread over the rice. Get some toothpicks and use it to roll up the mixture. Put them inside the slow cooker and add the soup and a cup of water. Cook for about 5 hours, and an hour before it is cooked, add the flour and water to make the sauce.
Country Swiss Steak
For this crock pot dish half a cup of flour is necessary, as well as some salt, black pepper (1/3 cup), 1 pound of steak, 2 cups of crushed celery, a cup of minced onion, a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, a couple of cups of beef broth and a cup of ketchup.
Cut the steak into smaller chunks, and sprinkle some flour. Place them inside the slow cooker and top it off with the Worcestershire sauce, broth, celery salt, pepper and the other ingredients. Set it to high. After 4 hours, open and add some flour and water to thicken the sauce. Keep the setting to high, stir and cook for 10 more minutes.
Few slow cooker dishes can be as satisfying as Swiss steaks, and sitting down to a well made meal can do wonders for you. All you need is to prepare the ingredients, and you’ll see how trouble-free they are to cook.
