Crock Pot Recipes for Desserts

When we say crock pot recipes, the first things that come to our minds are chicken dishes, beef dishes, pork dishes, or vegetable dishes. In most cases, we think of delectable heavy meals when we start talking about crock pot dishes. But what we tend to forget is the fact that even desserts can be cooked in crock pots. And this is the focus of our discussion today.

Apple Betty is one of the dessert recipes that can be prepared with the use of the crock pot. In preparing this dessert recipe, we will be needing three cups of soft bread crumbs, ½ cup of melted butter, zest and juice of a lemon, a teaspoon of cinnamon, a tablespoon of all-purpose flour, a cup of granulated sugar, and six cups of apples that are sliced thinly.

The lemon zest, cinnamon, flour, sugar, and apples should first be combined in a bowl, while the bread crumbs and butter are combined in a separate bowl. One third of the bread crumb mixture should be layered in the crock pot and then, half of the apple mixture should be layered on top of it. Repeat the layering procedure, making sure that the final layer is composed of the bread crumbs mixture. This dessert recipe should be cooked in the crock pot on high temperature for only four hours. This dessert becomes bubbly and brown once cooked.

Another sumptuous dessert recipe is the Crockpot Kahlua Bread Pudding. The ingredients that we need to prepare for this dessert recipe include toasted slivered or sliced almonds, ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon, a tablespoon of powdered instant coffee, 1/3 cup of sugar, three eggs, ¼ cup of Kahlua liquor, three cups of half-&-half or a 12-ounce can of evaporated skimmed milk, and a 16-ounce loaf of unsliced French bread.

To begin, a trivet or a metal rack should be placed in the crock pot. Grease a baking dish that is composed of eight to ten cups, making sure that it fits a slow cooker that measure four to five quarts. The crusts of the bread should be removed and discarded, and the bread should be cut into 1-inch cubes. The cinnamon, powdered coffee, sugar, eggs, Kahlua, half-&-half or milk should be combined well using a food processor or blender. Add the cubed breads in the mixture, stir to blend well, fill the baking dish with the mixture, and cover it with foil. Two cups of hot water should be added into the crock pot before placing the covered baking dish. Once all these are done, make sure to set the crock pot on high setting for only 2 ½ hours. One way of determining whether this dessert recipe is already cooked is by inserting a knife in the pudding and it comes out clean when removed. What’s good about this dessert recipe is that it can be served cold or warm. Toasted almonds may also be sprinkled on top of the pudding before serving.
