First you prepare the ingredients: get a pound or one and half pounds of turkey cutlets (alternatively you could substitute chicken); you will also need a couple of table spoons of taco seasoning, a cup of salsa, two cloves of garlic, and half a cup of peach or apricot preserves.

Now you cut it into several slices and add some taco seasoning and also some garlic. Next place it into the slow cooker. Deglaze the pan using the salsa and the peach or apricot and sprinkle it over the turkey. Leave it in the slow cooker for 4 to 6 hours.

Mix the chicken broth, celery, poultry seasoning and apple together. Put in about 3 tablespoons of the crumbs, particularly on each cutlet. Roll and arrange the cutlets on toothpicks and place in the slow cooker. Add more of the seasonings, and allow to cook for eight hours (if set to low) or 4 hours (if set to high).

Slow Cooker Turkey with Garlic

You need 1 and ½ pounds of turkey thighs (without skin), salt and pepper, garlic (6 cloves, whole), half a cup of white wine, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, half a cup of chicken broth and a tablespoon of chopped parsley.

First you spice up the turkey with salt and pepper; next put some olive oil in a skillet (medium high). Place in the frying pan, and let it brown (10 minutes). Put it in the slow cooker, and set it to high for 3 to 4 hours. Finally, take away the garlic cloves and serve the dish with the juices and spices of the other ingredients.

Making the Most Out of Your Slow Cooked Stew

Posted on March 19th, 2009 in Recipes by CrockPot

The best way to prepare food in a slow cooker is to cook a large quantity so that all that time waiting for it to get done won’t be wasted. One of the perennial favorites when it comes to slow cooking is stew. Here are some tips on getting creative with your big batch of slow cooker stew.

Stew is a versatile dish and can be used in a variety of ways. What’s more, it can very easily be chucked in the freezer and just reheated in batches for each meal. But doing this doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be stuck with one dish for a few days’ meal.

One useful tip is to purchase a prepared pie shell from your local supermarket that you can just pop in the oven. Your slow cooked stew can serve as a pot-pie filling for this crust, just fill the shell and cover with a crust. After baking the pie for forty minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, you already have a hearty dish that’s best served with a siding of potatoes and vegetables.

You basic slow cooker stew could start out with just a few ingredients: beef, carrots, potatoes. However as you cook by batch, you can add more and more vegetables like peas, onions, leeks, young corn, broccoli or any other healthy veggies, you can go crazy! Carrots and potatoes are ko to be cooked in a slow cooker because they can hold their form, however it is best to add more delicate vegetables post slow cooking so they can stay as fresh as possible.

Reheating your stew sometimes causes the sauce to run thin, but there are a few tricks to give your leftover slow cooker stew an extra richness in texture. Cornstarch is always a reliable friend in thickening soups and sauces, all you have to do is mix a few teaspoons with a small amount of water. For extra taste though, mashed potato flakes can be used in lieu of the cornstarch.

To give an extra kick to your slow cooker stew for the meals to come, a number of other spices or condiments can be added to give it a spin. For a smoky taste, you may add a couple of spoonfuls of barbecue or hickory smoked steak sauce. To make the taste a little more exotic, curry can be added instead turmeric. For those who would like their slow cooked stew to have an extra bite, chili and ground black pepper can be added.

Wine can also be added to your stew to give it that edge of sophistication. A few swigs of wine can be added to the stew but be careful not to overdo it so as not to overpower the flavor of your original dish. One eighth of a cup should be enough to give it that full-bodied flavor. Another alternative is beer, but the same goes with it, do not add too much, just enough to give it an extra tang.

A single batch of stew cooker in a slow cooker can indeed go a very long way if you know how to get creative with it.

Making Italian Beef on Slow Cookers

Posted on March 17th, 2009 in Recipes by CrockPot

There are several ways that Italian beef can be cooked in a slow cooker. For those that have had no practice, the following basic (yet sumptuous) variants will introduce you to the possibilities inherent in this delicacy.

Classic Italian Beef

Here are the ingredients: 5 lbs of rump roast, 1 jar (12 ounces) of pepperoni peppers, a 12 ounce jar of Italian Giardiniera, a package of Italian salad dressing, a can of pepperoncini peppers, and a 10 ounce can of beef broth.

Open the slow cooker and put in the rump roast. If you want, you can add a little bit of salt, pepper and garlic (this is only optional). Open the can of beef broth, and pour it in, and add the pepperoncini peppers, the Giardiniera and the salad dressing.

There are different kinds of ingredients here, so give this time to cook. You should set the slow cooker to low and permit 12 to 14 hours to pass. Over that period of time the meat will have tenderized. You can cook this on a high level, and it will only take about 6 hours. However, most prefer to cook it for the longer period, because it will give the dish the time needed to assimilate all the distinct flavorings and make them into a coherent whole.

This Italian beef dish goes best with sandwiches, or Italian rolls. The ingredients here are good for 15 servings. This can be accompanied by some cold beverages, or if you so prefer, a glass of wine instead.

Italian Beef with Beer

You need to have 4 lbs of roast beef, a can of beer (12 ounces will be enough), a pack of Italian salad dressing, a 12 oz jar of pepperoncini peppers, and several pieces of bread.

Start by opening the can of beer and pouring everything into the slow cooker. Next take the pepperoncini peppers and throw them in with the beer. Add the salad dressing and stir the ingredients together. Throw in the other peppers and set the roast on top of it.

Layer it with more peppers, and cook for 10 hours on a low level. When it is done, remove the roast from the slow cooker and set on a platter and serve with the bread. You can use any kind of loaf, and as with the other recipe, you may eat it with rolls.

Italian beef is not only simple to cook, but its ingredients give it a taste that is quite unlike the traditional meat made in slow cookers. When you have learned to make these recipes, invite your friends over, and let them partake of a little European cuisine.
