Kielbasa Recipes Made for Slow Cookers

Kielbasa, or Polish sausage, has been a mainstay in European tables for many years. If you want to incorporate this in your meals, try the following recipes.

Kielbasa with Potatoes

You should get 3 lbs of potatoes (10 pieces, medium size), a couple of medium sized onions (chopped), 14 ounces of Kielbasa sausages, potato soup (2 cans, 10 ounces for each one), evaporated milk (half a cup will be all right), pepper (1/3 cup), paprika and some shredded cheese.

Start this dish by placing the Kielbasa, onions and potatoes in the slow cooker. Leave this for awhile and get a medium sized bowl and mix in the potato soup, milk, cheese and add some of the pepper. Pour this into the crock pot and spray some paprika. Add the sausages.

Set the slow cooker to low, and in 7 hours, your Kielbasa meal will be ready.

Tangy and Spicy Kielbasa

This recipe requires a can of apples (20 ounces), Kielbasa sausages (3 lbs), sliced onions (2 pieces), brown sugar (1/3 cup), half a teaspoon of salt, and a little bit of pepper.

This dish is very, very easy to make: just pour in all the aforementioned ingredients in the slow cooker, stir for a couple of minutes and close the lid. Set to high. In 5 hours, you can remove the sausages and serve them on a plate.

This dish can be eaten on its own, but some prefer to have it with some fried rice, while others prefer noodles. Those with a sweet tooth like to munch on some brownies. This just goes to show you how versatile it is.

Kielbasa with Mustard

For this one you will need sweet onion (1 piece, sliced), a couple of pounds of Kielbasa, 3 tablespoons of mustard, vinegar (3 tablespoons), brown sugar (2 tablespoons), and a couple of tablespoons of honey.

Cut the sausages into bite sized chunks. Open the slow cooker and place some onions in the slow cooker, layering the sausages on top of it. Get the honey, vinegar, sugar and the other ingredients all together in a bowl and spray all over the sausages.

Turn the slow cooker on to low (7 hours) or high (3 and half hours). This can be an appetizer, a side dish or the main dish; it’s all up to you.

If you’ve never heard of Kielbasa, now’s the time to try it. These three recipes will give you a taste of just exactly what you can do with this Polish delight.

The Magic of Potatoes in Slow Cooker Recipes

In almost any slow cooker recipe, potatoes are important. Even in recipes that don’t require them, potatoes can do a lot of wonders. People can try adding them, because potatoes in slow cooker recipes add more quality, weigh, and substance, literally.

Potatoes have that neutralizing flavor that makes it compatible with any recipe ingredient. The same goes even for its more delightful counterpart, the sweet potato. Potatoes go so well with beef, pork, chicken, fish, and other vegetables and even fruits. Fruit salads and almost any kind of salad have them. It’s a very versatile high-carbohydrate ingredient everybody accepts. Thus, it’s very safe to add potatoes in slow cooker recipes that don’t have them.

One of the best things about potatoes is that they can never get overcooked. Even in mashed potatoes when they get so soft, they still carry lots of nutrients, especially carbohydrates. Even in high heat they never lose their flavor. In fact the more they’re cooked the better they taste. So with either high or low heat, potatoes in slow cooker recipes are not negatively affected.

Potatoes can balance recipes with too much meaty flavors in them. For instance, combined beef and pork recipes taste better when mixed with enough potatoes. Few other vegetables can do the same. Many of them easily absorb meat flavors too much that the whole recipe begins to taste monotonous, without any tingle of a contrast. Potatoes in slow cooker recipes neutralize dominant food flavors and lend them a subtle balance.

Slow cooker recipes with lots of creams or mayonnaise taste better when mixed in with mashed, or diced, or quartered potatoes. Even thickly sauced recipes of beef, chicken, pork, or fish can be blended with quartered or chipped potatoes. It’s either fresh potatoes in slow cooker recipes or pre-fried ones.

Finally, potatoes not only add flavor, nutrients, and design to dishes. They also add substance—to accommodate more numbers of servings. Dishes become more stuffy and plenty when proportionately added with potatoes. It’s a trick that always works with unexpected guests coming over for dinner time. And potatoes are not difficult to prepare or cook. Potatoes in slow cooker recipes need no special treatment. They easily blend in with whatever cooking procedure is needed.

Next time dinners need to be extra stuffed and balanced, try potatoes in slow cooker recipes, especially those with beef, pork, chicken, or fish. They are sure to fill up every need.

Slow Cooker Dinner for Two: Beef Stew

Cooking for two with a slow cooker that usually comes in 6-quart sizes or larger is not very convenient. Unfortunately, most slow cooker dinner recipes that are available consider these large volumes that can serve eight or more people. But what if you’ve got a 2-quart or a 3-quart cooker because you’re only cooking for two or three people? What’s a good recipe proportion for your smaller cooker? Well, here’s a slow cooker dinner for two, beef stew recipe that’s perfect for these smaller-sized cookers.

For this beef stew slow cooker dinner, the ingredients include:

1 lb. of beef stew meat (preferably, from beef chuck because it stews beautifully)
2 potatoes cut into bite-size cubes
1 carrot that’s cut the same size as the potatoes
1 large garlic clove that’s chopped (or two small cloves)
1 onion that’s peeled and quartered
1 bay leaf
2 tbsp. of vegetable oil
Flour
A dash of powdered oregano
A dash of powdered rosemary
Salt and pepper
Water

First off in preparing this slow cooker dinner is to dredge the meat in flour and fry it in hot vegetable oil until brown but not cooked all the way through. We’re doing this to get a thicker sauce and to add color to the stew. When the meat is browned, transfer it to the slow cooker and take as much oil out as you can — drain the meat in an iron sift, if you must.

Pile in the vegetables (diced potatoes and carrot, chopped garlic clove, quartered onion, bay leaf, and spices) with the browned meat. Add just enough water to cover the ingredients but do not go more than ¾-full in the pot. Cover and set it at “low” and cook for 7-8 hours.

When you are into the last half hour of finishing this slow cooker dinner, you’re going to set it to “high”. When it begins to boil, mix two tablespoons of flour in ½ cup of water and stir this blend into the stew. Since there’s almost no evaporation when you’re cooking with a crock pot, this will help thicken the stew more in addition to the initial dredge that you did when the beef was browned.

If it has thickened to your preference, then this beef stew slow cooker dinner for two is done. You’ll find that the meat and vegetables are tender and the soup is hearty. It’s perfect with crusty bread and it’s just the right portion for two people to share.

A Crock Pot Recipe for Soup

A crock pot is also commonly called a slow cooker. It is a home appliance used in the kitchen for cooking foods on low temperature. The foods cooked in a crock pot are those that require water in the recipe. Since these foods must be cooked in low temperature, cooking time usually takes a long time. It even means that cooking time can last for eight hours or more. The convenience of using a crock pot is the fact that it can safely operate unattended. For instance, if you want to cook beef stew, you can turn your crock pot on in the morning and prepare the dish before going to work or going somewhere else so that when you get back in the afternoon or in the evening, the beef stew is already prepared. Although the term Crock Pot has been the trademark of the slow cooker manufactured by Rival Industries, the term is also being used to refer to any crock pot or any slow cooker in general. Now, let’s talk about a soup recipe that can be prepared using a slow cooker or a crock pot.

This soup recipe is called the Slow Cooker Hearty White Bean Soup. In order to prepare such dish, you need such ingredients as salt and pepper, two to three cans of white beans that are drained. These cans of white beans have to be fifteen ounces each. Other ingredients include one half cup of corn kernels, one cup of frozen baby lima beans which are drained and cooked, two cans of diced tomatoes and juice which have to be 14.5 ounces each, one fourth teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper, one half teaspoon of dried thyme, one medium onion that is diced, one and a half cups of sliced celery, one and a half cups of carrots that are sliced, one quart of vegetable broth, and two smoked ham hocks. In cases when smoked ham hocks are not available, you may use a meaty ham bone for substitute.

In preparing this soup recipe, the crock pot that should be used should measure four to six quarts. To start, the ham bone or the ham hocks should be combined with onion, celery, carrots, and vegetable broths. Cover the crock pot after combining such ingredients and cook on either low or high temperature. If you are going to cook this soup recipe on low temperature, the crock pot should be set for eight hours. If you prefer to cook such soup recipe on high temperature, the crock pot should instead be set for four hours. If and when the food is not yet cooked after eight or four hours, you can set the crock pot for several more minutes or until the vegetables become tender. Afterwards, the broth should be strained carefully into a bowl and the excess fat should be skimmed. The broth that you strained should be returned to the crock pot. Put the ham bone or the ham hocks on a plate and let them cool. Once cooled, you must remove the meat from the bones, dice it, and return it to the crock pot together with the broth. The remaining ingredients should then be added into the crock pot together with salt and pepper. This time, this soup recipe should be on high temperature but should only be cooked for approximately an hour.
