Crock Pot Temperatures – Is Your Crock Pot Working Properly?

Posted on January 31st, 2009 in General Info by CrockPot

You probably have several kitchen appliances. Many of these appliances are fairly versatile and one of them is the crock pot. If you want to maximize the use of your appliance, however, it is very important that you should understand crock pot temperatures. How is a crock pot build? What is its internal heating element? Testing crock pot temperatures also determine whether or not you need to get a new appliance or not.

Crock Pot Temperatures

All crock pots or slow cookers have internal heating structure. Usually, this is placed at the insert’s center. This way, the food will not be burnt at the bottom. Usually, crock pot temperatures are indicated by the appliance’s temperature settings which often include low, high and warm selections. Since these machines are often use for all-day slow cooking, crock pots generally run on even and slow temperatures. This way you can prevent liquid evaporation, so you end up with perfectly cooked foods at the end of the day.

Average crock pot temperatures range from 200 degrees Fahrenheit for low to 300 degrees Fahrenheit for high. Of course, these temperatures vary depending on the brand and the model of your appliance. Basically, you can cook foods on low temperatures for as long as 12 hours. You can set the temperature on high if you intend to cook your food for no longer than 6 hours. You cannot, however, go beyond the maximum cooking hours. Otherwise, you would overcook the food. Usually, recipes come with temperature approximations.

Depending on the brand, high crock pot temperatures can cause the appliance to heat up. It is a good idea to get a hot pad in order to protect your counter.

Testing Your Crock Pot Temperatures

Unless your crock pot has completely fallen apart, how do you really know if it is working properly? Slow cooking can have its benefits, but not if your crock pot is painstakingly taking its time to cook your food. How do you know if your crock pot temperatures are correct? At a temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit, your slow cooker or crock pot should be able to heat a dish within four hours. If your appliance fails to do so, you should consider purchasing a new one.

In order to know whether you need a new crock pot or not, you should try this test:

Get your crock pot and fill half of it with water and then place the lid. Set the temperature to low and cook for 8 hours. After the lapse of eight hours, immediately remove the slow cooker’s lid and then measure the water temperature. The temperature should be 85 degrees Celsius. If it is lower than that, you need to get a new crock pot.

All crock pots have internal heating system. Crock pot temperatures vary between low, medium and high. You need to test your appliance temperature in order to check if it is working. You might not know if you need a new one.

Crock Pot Stuffing: Cabbage

The ingredients are 4 lbs of beef, sausage meat (2 to 3 lbs), a cup of bread crumbs, garlic cloves (2 pieces, minced), half a teaspoon of garlic powder, ¼ tablespoon of onion powder, a tablespoon of paprika, and a couple of eggs.

This crock pot stuffing will also need a small cabbage, salt (1 and ½ teaspoons), onion juice (1 large piece), flour, a cup of tomato paste, and olive oil.

If you haven’t done it yet, reduce the bread into smaller pieces (use a blender if you want), and spray it with some salt, pepper and paprika. Also grind the ground beef and mix it with the onion. Get the onion juice, tomato paste, garlic powder, onion powder and all the remaining ingredients and mix them in a bowl.

The next step to cooking this crock pot stuffing is to take away the core of the cabbage. Put the cabbage in a container with hot water and let it boil until the leaves turn green. Afterwards, put the cabbage in the crock pot and add the ingredients you just mixed.

Put the ground chuck in the slow cooker, and pour in the tomato juice, and add the onions, tomatoes, crushed peppers, and the other seasonings. Add the sour cream or onion dip when all the other ingredients had been thoroughly mixed.

Cook this crock pot stuffing by turning it to high (5 hours at most). Serve with cooked rice and some fried potatoes. If the meal is too spicy, you can top it off with some melted or shredded cheese.

Crock pot stuffing is enjoyed by a lot of people simply because it allows them to be inventive; you get to try out different ingredients, mixing and matching to your heart’s content. As delicious as the recipes are, the process of making them is half the fun, which can’t be said for most meals.

Spicy Pulled Pork Recipe

Posted on January 30th, 2009 in Recipes by CrockPot

Pulled pork is such an amazing discovery, which is ideally done in the crock pot. Without the efficient, low cooking capability of the crock pot, we would not know a thing about the fancy taste and the amazing texture of a pulled pork recipe.

A basic pulled pork recipe involves a chunk of pork meat, some acondiments, a rich barbecue sauce, and a couple of well-baked breads. Pork shoulder and pork butt are perfect for this recipe because they have the most of the quality meat. If you want to try a spicy pulled pork recipe, try following the instructions below:

Step 1: Put in some onions on the crock pot, lay down the meat, add more onions, and put in a cup of ginger ale. After setting up your meat the proper way, turn on the pot. You may choose cooking on low temperature and spend eight to twelve hours waiting or you can set up your crock pot on high and wait for around four to six hours. The ideal process is where you will spend long hours waiting. After seeing the end result, you will find that the wait is well worth it.

Step 2: After leaving the meat in the crock pot for long hours, test the meat with your fork. If it falls apart easily with a single prick, your meat is done. Once the meat is cooked, you may drain it and put it in another container where you can freely pull it apart. Discard any fat that survived melting.

Step 3: Once you are one shredding, you are now ready to put back the pork meat to the crock pot with some tasty barbecue sauce. You can spice up your recipe with some tabasco sauce for an added zest. Continue the cooking process on the crock pot for another six hours.

Step 4: After six hours, the barbecue sauce would have incorporated in your meat. So it is time to serve it lovingly. Pull out the best bread you have in stock, may it be dinner rolls, hamburger buns, or baguettes. Serve your pulled pork recipe with your bread and watch as the combination continuously amaze family member with every bite.

A pulled pork recipe is ideal for a delightful dinner. When it is cooked on a crock pot, it will surely come out perfectly. A wise homemaker knows every thing that it takes for the perfect result. If you are one, you must know by now the significance of that crock pot lying in your counter.

We would like to show you how to cook the Crockpot Turkey and Quesadillas dish. For sure, just hearing its name already makes you hungry. So, let’s start by mentioning each of the ingredients needed to cook this turkey breast recipe. We need a cup of apple cider vinegar, two tablespoons of black pepper, two tablespoons of salt, half cup of vegetable oil, ¾ cup of parsley, and a five-pound turkey breast.

In a large crock pot, place the turkey and pour over the mixture of half cup of parsley, vinegar, pepper, salt, and vegetable oil. After doing so, the remaining parsley should be sprinkled on top. For the quesadillas, a teaspoon of oil should be heated in a skillet. A flour tortilla should be placed in the skillet as well as half cup of cheese blend that is Mexican-style and half cup of diced turkey. A second tortilla should be added on top. Once the cheese begins to melt, turn it using a spatula so that the other side will be browned. The quesadilla should be sliced into quarters and should also be served with salsa.

The Turkey Breast Tenders with Orange-Cranberry Sauce is a turkey breast recipe that is easier to prepare than the first one we mentioned. Spicing Up Beef Dishes in Slow Cooker Crockpots

Posted on January 28th, 2009 in Crockpots by CrockPot

Beef has a strong luscious flavor compared to other meats. When cooking beef, know how to take more advantage of its potential. Here are tips on how to get more out of the goodness in beef when cooking beef dishes in slow cooker crockpots.

Slow cookers are ideal containers to cook beef in. With their simmering feature they can bring out the best in beef recipes. The first tip is to slow cook beef on low heat as often as possible to slowly bring out flavor from it. The key to more beefy beef dishes in slow cooker pots is gradual cooking. High heat can often ruin the potential of beef. As much as possible, do not cook beef recipes when in a hurry.

Also, remember that beef dishes in slow cookers should be given enough time to tenderize before other ingredients are mixed in. Most beef recipes take 5 to 8 hours to cook. Some even 12 hours. So make sure that before other ingredients like veggies are added, the meat has to become tender enough first. This usually takes the last few minutes before beef is cooked. If the recipe says slow cook beef in 10 hours, then add veggies during the last 20 to 15 minutes before the 10 hours are up—or according to recipe instructions, to avoid over-cooking.

Simmering beef dishes in slow cooker crockpots is further enhanced when mixed in with spices. While tenderizing beef on low heat for hours it is often advisable to do it with the seasoning and spices already in slow cooker. If the recipe includes black peppers, salt, onions, tomatoes, soy sauce, and other spices, try to place some of them in the slow cooker simultaneously with the beef. The rest could come later as the recipe instructs.

Tomatoes and onions simmered with beef for long hours can produce a delicate stew concoction that blends the flavor of beef and these spices well. Moreover, more of the nutritious lycopene is produced with tomatoes this way. The longer spices and beef dishes in slow cookers are simmered together the better the stew flavor.

Finally, try ground beef dishes in slow cooker simmering process. Ground beef takes lesser time to tenderize and cook. And beef flavor is easier to bring out with ground beef. It is ideal when cooking chopped mixed vegetables in a slow cooker. Ground beef is also perfect as stuffing.

Always remember these tips when cooking beef dishes in slow cookers and exploit the potentials of beef.
