Cooking Ham in a Crock Pot

Posted on December 27th, 2008 in Recipes by CrockPot

Making ham in a slow cooker requires very little culinary knowledge or experience on your part. The fact that there are scores of ways you can serve the dish goes to show how easy people find it to cook. You too, will find that out once you give these recipes a try.

Cheese Soufflé Casserole with Ham

One of the best –and most delicious- ways you can learn how to serve ham in a slow cooker is by making this simple casserole. All you need are eggs (4 of them), cheese (8 ounces, any type will do), bread (8 slices, without crust and preferably cut into quarters), a cup of ham (chopped), a cup of milk, salt (1/4 teaspoon), fresh parsley (a tablespoon), and some paprika.

The first step is to add some grease to the crock pot. Now put in the bread and cheese, and then set in the ham in the slow cooker (add as many layers as you like). Now after beating the eggs, add some of the parsley, milk and salt into it. Take this mixture and sprinkle over the cheese and slice bread. Spray as much paprika as needed.

To cook, set the crock pot to high for half an hour, then set to low and cook for 3 more hours. Remove the ham in the slow cooker (as well as the cheese and bread), and, you’re now ready to serve.

Glazed Ham with Mustard

To create this recipe, cooked ham is required (5 lbs), a dozen cloves of onion, a tablespoon of mustard, half a cup of sugar (brown), orange juice (2 tablespoons), lemon juice (also 2 tablespoons), and a couple of tablespoons of cornstarch.

Before you put the ham in the slow cooker, slice it into a diamond like shape, and fill with the cloves of onion. Now add the brown sugar, lemon juice and spread over the ham. Turn the crock pot on to high for about an hour. After 60 minutes, reduce the setting to low and let it cook for 10 hours.

Finally, take away the ham in the slow cooker and place it on a pan (don’t let it get cold). Reset the crock pot to high, and add the orange juice and also the cornstarch. Stir it for another 15 minutes or until it gets thick. Glaze this syrup over the ham.

That’s basically all there is to cooking ham in a slow cooker. Yes, there are different ways to prepare them, but with these two recipes under your belt, the others will be even easier to create.
